Kim Do

Kim Do was born with Cerebral Palsy which affects her mobility and speech. In spite of this barrier, she approaches life with enthusiasm and determination. Kim was SEDS' most regular job club attendee, eager to apply for any position she could find, sending off resume after resume. She was always happy to keep trying.

In early 2009, North and West SEDS began a cooperative effort to secure suitable positions with Westpac Bank. After months of negotiations with executives, changes to management, many meetingsand countless phone calls a new position was created at the Westpac International Service and Operations in Parramatta. A "need" had been identified for a person to scan documents and prepare them to be processed. SEDS forwarded Kim's application, for which she was selected for an interview. SEDS staff worked together to prepare Kim for the interview, giving valuable tips and boosting her confidence. All the efforts paid off: Kim got the job!

Kim commenced employment with Westpac as Scanning Officer in April 2009 and is still employed there. After working out the best way to scan incredibly thin rice paper and remove tiny staples, Kim applied her trademark dedication and attention to detail to her work. The workplace modification scheme, through JobAccess, has provided a trolley to assist her in delivering documents to the rest of her team and crutch-holders for her desk. Kim’s attitude and determination has not changed since being employed.

As a matter of fact, Kim recently told her Maintenance Officer, “I am just waiting for a few more months so that I am eligible to apply for a higher position in the organisation.” Westpac staff and management have been exceptionally supportive of Kim, welcoming her on board. SEDS continues to work with the employer to ensure that the placement is successful.
