A comprehensive VETAB accredited course and Job Readiness Workshops (R2W), for job seekers with severe physical and/or multiple disabilities.
These courses enable and empower participants to engage in effective job-searching activities in order to obtain a suitable employment position.
The course is run by Open Employment Program.
Participants will learn to:
- Identify the most suitable vocational interest
- Select relevant transferable skills
- Develop a realistic self image and build strong self esteem
- Demonstrate initiatives to develop suitable job searching activities
- Participate in setting strategies to gain an employment
- Undertake job searching responsibilities
- Take part in managing time for job searching
- Develop and maintain self confidence
- Gain a specific knowledge of job searching tools and guidelines
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to use the job searching tools
and assistance system available in Australia
- Develop an understanding of workplace structure and culture
- Overcome difficulties in gaining employment
- Gain practical knowledge of the most effective methods and techniques
to identify a potential employer
- Arrange, attend and conduct a job interview
- Group and individual courses are offered.
Who is eligible?
All job seekers with significant difficulties in gaining open employment.
Fees:
These courses are free to participants in The Spastic Centre's Open Employment Program.
Fees may apply for external participants.
Graduates:
On completion, graduates of the PDE course will receive a Statement of Attainment with an
assessment indicating the person's readiness for employment.

SEDS Training Coordinator Peter Casey said that having Rob White and Brian Williamson attend the graduation and present the certificates made it an extra special occasion for the graduates. He also thanked The Spastic Centre Learning and Development department for their invaluable assistance with the course, especially L&D Advisor, Pamela Simon.
Certificate I in Business – Personal Development for Employment is a nationally recognised and accredited qualification delivered by SEDS as part of their vocational and prevocational training for people with disabilities who want to maximize their employment opportunities by developing employability skills.
