"We weren't sure how far she would go with
anything, mainly walking, but with her new found
confidence and willingness to give anything a
go, is hopefully a sign that nothing will stand
in her way." |
Our Centre is auspiced by The Spastic
Centre and supported financially by ING (formerly
Mercantile Mutual) and Rotary International. The Centre
was officially opened in May 2000 by our patron, Steve
Waugh. The Centre is based on the model of Conductive
Education developed and practised in Hungary using
Conductors whose training is recognised by the Petö
Institute.
The Conductive Education Programs
operate under the policies and procedures set out
by The Spastic Centre, which are in accordance with
The Disability Services Act and Standards and the
recommended practices for Early Childhood Intervention.
Referrals
Referrals to the program can be
made directly to the Centre for Conductive Education,
or through The Spastic Centre's Pathways Coordinators
by phoning 1300 888 378, by the student's family,
caregiver, or by another agency or professional person
in consultation with the family.
Program
Costs
Initial assessments are free. However,
a fee per session does apply, which is currently set
at $30.00. A session may last between 1.5 and 3 hours
depending on the group needs. Rotary has offered to provide sponsorship
to families in genuine need of financial assistance.
Acknowledgements
The Spastic Centre and the
ING Centre for Conductive Education would like to
thank ING for their financial support of the program
and Rotary International for providing financial assistance
to families in need. It is this ongoing support that
ensures a successful future for the program.
